“While everyone was a bit freaked and hearteningly cautious …. .” We all did come together for a bit. But only for a bit. I think a lot about historical events, events that required fortitude and stamina and everything human beings could give. We love to make movies out of these events and enjoy peoples’ courage as entertainment. But when asked to fully participate in a similar event ourselves, right now, people whine and complain and get pissed off and chillingly don’t want to save other peoples lives, not because they can’t but because it’s inconvenient to them. The narcissism is stunning, from mostly everyone I know.
It’s very true. The irony that media, culture and the odd bit of news can summon up all the empathy but the stone cold reality of everyday people losing their actual lives means very little.
Valerie, another excellent… what do I call your incredible written voice. It’s not an article in the sense of being 2-dimensional, words on paper. For those of us walking this tightrope of seemingly threadbare string, it is 3-dimensional - entering our minds, hearts, and souls. We hold each word, feel it, examine it, experience it and set it back down in the sentence. You bring us together in love, in intense frustration, in fear such as we have never known, in despair and depression, in sick humor (the healthy kind), in tears, in hope, in loneliness, in sadness, in utter disbelief, and in a sense of unity we can rarely find.
Thank you again.
I hold us all in prayer, the one place I can find peace. Sometimes it is a desperate peace but sometimes it is a loving and embracing peace. And I am grateful for both.
As bizarre as it is to be living through this, the fact I’ve found so many people living the same makes the bizarre a bit more tolerable. I hope what I’ve written does a little bit of the same ❤️
Hey, just wanted to say that another layer of protection might be Cybernight Market's Far UVC lantern or torch set (for applications outside the home). Not sure if she can ship to Australia, but worth looking into. I know $$$, but I'd contribute a little if you need it.
Oh don’t you love ChatGPT. More intelligent than the general population. They obviously need to add a smattering of cognitive dissonance or it’ll never be ‘human-like’.
Yes. The way out…..
My scenario just doesn’t compute.
We end up with an obviously increasing health burden.
The governments admit they cocked up. NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN!!! They’ll have to come up with a different story….
We finally get clean air, but only because it makes sense for the people who need to make money from the general peasant masses.
But unless they acknowledge covid’s role, how will we get enough people to take a neutralising vaccine of the future. Even if it is developed, why would they make it available. Unless of course they suddenly remember we have vulnerable people…. And give it to them. (Obviously doesn’t help everyone.)
I was lucky. I have a good GP. As far as I know she’s still masking with an FFP3. I’ve not seen her in person for a while - I still do telephone appointments. We chat about it.
I thought the vaccine could be the golden bullet we’d ben promised. And I thought it was ironic that the vulnerable were getting it first and would be more protected than the general population. One in the eye so to speak.
She burst that bubble for me before I’d even taken it. It was a blow but it was the truth.
I’m cautious because it (and a bunch of other things) have destroyed the media workplace worldwide.
But the ability to aggregate what exists is a bloody useful thing, as long as it doesn’t turn nefarious or people get lazy and go no further than whatever AI says.
And yeah, the road out. I’ve got very little beyond trust no one and carry a big mitigation stick.
I hold out hope for compassion. But I also hold out hope that I can eat nothing but crisps and suffer no consequences. 😐

People are broken.

Thank you so much Jane.
Your words mean a great deal.

Great article. Thankyou and I’m sorry.
It’s interesting, AI.
